Help! My Band Digs Into My Side

Is your bra digging into your sides? Sorry to break it to you ladies, but you definitely need a new bra!

Rethink Your Bra Size

If your bra is digging into your sides and causes you to be uncomfortable much too often, a too-small band size is likely the culprit. A bra fitting rule of thumb (and something you should always remember) is that the cup size is related to your band size. This means that if you’re going to be trying a larger band size, you will need to go down a cup size. For example, if you’re wearing a size 34C and the band is too small, you should try a size 36B. If you’re an A cup and need to go up to a bigger band size, try a AA bra.

The best solution to a digging bra band is to wear the correct size bra but if you’re unable to get a new one, you may want to try a bra back extender. This item will add 1 to 4 inches to your bra back.

Think Fit, Not Flab

“I don’t want backfat!” is the complaint heard around the bra world. Many women simply don’t want the extra back fat around the bra band and feel it’s a sign the bra doesn’t fit. Au contraire. Back fat is a natural result of a woman’s body and isn’t an indication of an ill fitting bra. In fact, back fat is a sign that your band is fitting appropriately and providing your breasts the support they need to stay up. So while wearing a looser band would likely reduce the appearance of back fat, it would also diminish your bra’s support. To eliminate the back fat syndrome while maintaining frontal support, I recommend trying bras that have a wider band in the back. This will create a smoother look.
